Time for an additional grading for you today, and this one is a spectacular presentation as we cover the highest grossing horror film in history bringing in over $700 million dollars! This remake notably called It, or Stephen King’s It or It: Chapter 1 features Andy Muschietti at the helm and Bill Skarsgard playing the infamous Pennywise the dancing clown. Movie reviews and disc quality reviews are color coded for your convenience, BillChete in orange and Lady Phantom in blue respectively.
IMDb Storyline: In the Town of Derry, the local kids are disappearing one by one. In a place known as ‘The Barrens’, a group of seven kids are united by their horrifying and strange encounters with an evil clown and their determination to kill It.
BillChete and Lady Phantom watched this flick at the theater and then did a detailed movie review for over an hour on October 12, 2017. You can download the AUDIO and listen to all the gritty details. Amazingly, both critics on their third re-watch are amending there overall ratings by 2 full points! This is mainly due to the 4K quality, as in the theater, the screen was so dark and lost an amazing amount of detail. Another reason why they promote 4K as THE ONLY WAY to watch movies!
4K Disc Quality:
Oh my God, what an amazing 4K Blu-ray Disc! The visuals are on another stratosphere especially the black levels. Since tons of scenes are set underground, in tunnels and dark locations you can make out every single detail, pattern and architecture at an unparalleled depth with each shade of black in darkness intact. Daylight scenes are gloriously vivid, clear and very sharp. The contrast ratio is astounding! This is the best I’ve seen yet for a 2K up-convert! The audio is just as impressive, maybe even more so. The Dolby Atmos track has a gazoodle surround and overhead effects engulfing you in pure bliss auditorily. The subwoofer channel is punchy and effective. For a non-action, non-sci-fi movie this is a reference audio presentation that completely fulfills every aspect of sound production.
Wow. What a difference to watch this movie in 4K! First of all, there’s no grain to be seen. There’s great contrast; the blacks are nice and rich, and the scenes in the daylight are bright and detailed. There’s a scene in a dark place with a makeshift flame thrower that looks fantastic. You can see every little thing, even in the darkest scenes. All the effects, including CGI, look amazing. What really shines in this disc is the sound, however. From the very beginning, you feel enveloped by the sound. The surround and the high speakers get a workout! You can hear wind chimes coming from above, thunder all around you, etc. All the dialogue is intelligible, and you hear every little thing. I’m highly impressed with this disc. I only wish there had been more scenes in plain daylight. I hope part 2 is as good as this.
