Slight fan of musicals example Cats but that movie is a catastrophe, this La la land will not be purchased thanks to you also hehehe.

Best regards, Suzanne

@Shawn: I heard about the Bruce Lee bit. It was really funny in my opinion, and it was actually partially based on a true story. I read that after glee fought with the other guy, he actually got together with him to learn from him, so that’s cool. I think the people who complain about that fail to see that Once… is NOT a true story, but more of a “what if…?” and quite a few parts are more like a parody. In any case, that Bruce Lee bit is great and hilarious in my opinion.
I love Grease, just like I love many musicals. I get what LaLa Land was trying to do, but I just don’t think it landed. Sweeney Todd is actually very good even though Johnny and Helena can’t really sing! 😂
We have covered a few boutique discs; off the top of my head, Zombie (Blue Underground), Tremors (Arrow) and Elephant Man (Studio Canal). We typically don’t do Criterion Blu-rays. We’re not big on special features unless we absolutely adore the film, the price just don’t warrant it.

@lemarcus Yeah, it's a bummer Wonka is a garbage 4k. Glad you waited.
I had zero interest in La La Land. Seemed very pretentious and self serving for La and Hollywood. Glad to know my shallow opinion was warranted. I also avoided Once upon a time in Hollywood for mostly the same reasons and I heard bad things about how Bruce Lee was depicted. Bill I have a love for Grease but I wouldn't dream of requesting it(4K isn't too bad fyi). Family story behind why, I normally don't go for musicals. Although I liked Sweeney Todd with Depp, so maybe I do LOL.
Btw, have you guys ever considered covering some of these Boutique (criterion, arrow and Shout/Scream factory) 4k transfer Blu-ray discs? They charge massive amounts of $ using the 4k transfer as an advertising tool IMO, but only using a Blu-ray not a 4k disc. I wouldn't expect you to buy a lot of them, maybe if you already had some in your collection. Looking forward to ep 100 🤙

@iluvyolie: I can perfectly understand that. Nostalgia is a big part of what we like. I also wish it had been a better disc. Thank you for listening!

wonka is a true classic to me was brought up on this loved it as a kid seen it so many times

i think was generally good when you have the nostalgia factor is hard to rate fairly and i think you two did a wonderful job for me it is a strong 8 but a 10 for timelessness for the older generation

i am fairly new to the 4k stuff value your opinions grandly this one hurts me as i was hoping for a good disk i would have upgraded this one from my dvd right away sad to hear it is one of the worse disks

@Lemarcus: Oh my, I’m sorry! 😂 Yeah; unlike in the remake, all that part is a drag. And unfortunately, it’s most of the movie. But anyway, I’m glad we saved you a buck!

@Shawn, thank you for your request because it saved me from what seemed to be an automatic pickup! Thank you also BillChete and Lady Phantom for covering Wonka! More than the grade, I was eagerly anticipating Lady's review of the film itself and unfortunately she broke my heart lol. I love this movie but at the same time I'll give her this much... When I watch it now, I usually skip to when they're at the gate and start watching from there. Til the next show!

@Shawn: I’m sorry about wounding your soul! However, I stand by what I said. The perfect version for me would be the remake (without the filler scenes) but starring Gene Wilder. Not because I didn’t like Johnny, but because Wilder was just better. Johnny was fine; nowhere as weird and crazy as that Fear and Loathing. Anyway, it’sa shame the release wasn’t better!

As always I appreciate you guys covering my request. I first saw Willy Wonka around 6-8yo in the mid 80s, I'm 44. I just remember being so mesmerized by the idea of winning a chance to tour a famous chocolate factory. I did appreciate it even more as an adult. Picking up on Wilder's clever lines and sarcasm. I absolutely agree he was the focal point of this movie. Lady Phantom you wounded me even mentioning the travesty that shall not be named with Depp. I put that mess up with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I'm going to stand by my F-. I compared it to my 40th Anniversary box set Blu-ray and yeah maybe the colors look a little better, but for the 50th Anniversary on 4k, I still say its crap. The only time I really noticed any real difference was the Wonka letters lighting up on the factory smoke stack, during the scene with the creepy old man giving his speech to Charlie. BTW, the TV sequence I thought was the worst. The grain was so heavy in that scene. Anyway, I Completely agree with Bill, such a wasted opportunity with the color pallette in this movie. Real shame

Marky Mark is now a has been IMO. He’s producing a slew of movies so he can star in them LOL. THX for the bonus extras, a double-dose of Movies in 4K is AWESOME.

I wanted a CB in my car back in the day because of Smokey and the Bandit but I never could afford it. 🙁

Fun review really enjoyed it. Love the podcast.

@Sangzle: Yes! We actually mentioned Phantom off the Paradise. Not one of the best Phantom of the Opera iterations, but original. Paul Williams is definitely my favorite in SatB, and I only wish he’d been in it more.
SangzIe SangzIe wrote on July 23, 2021 at 6:25 am
Paul Williams is a whoot in this and his father big Enos played by Pat McCormick from Get Smart+History of the world Part 1. Williams is talented did you know he is perturbed by being known for this role when he is a multifaceted guy? Have you seen The phantom in paradise? Check it out.

Sheriff Jackie and son are dastardly funny some of the lines crack me up to no end. What a brilliant combination. My favorite part is at the Puke diner lol when Jackie walks in and the bandit talks to him. That scene is hilarius.

This one is underrated to the max in cinema. You never hear it talked about, I’m tickled you guys covered it. Dam bumber the quality is D. I’m still buying it though to support 1970 movies like this. Long but NOT FORGOTTEN.

@Shawn: Oh, cool! That’s a good price too.

@Howe: Yes, The quality of the 4K is low, but it’s always a pleasure to watch! Thanks for listening!

HI. I love me some trucker action. I can tell the love of the movie by BillChete, I haven’t seen this one in ages, since the grading is ultra low gonna have to rent it on ITunes!!!

Yeah, I check Amazon periodically. They have price drops randomly. The Cornetto 4k trilogy was $20 same time as The Mummy. Probably should've grabbed it too. Dealers choice on the trilogy for a review sometime 🤙
Lady Phantom Lady Phantom from Las Vegas wrote on July 22, 2021 at 1:55 pm
@Shawn: The Mummy trilogy for $20? That’s a great deal! I enjoy those movies a lot, even if they’re not the greatest. They’re a lot of fun! And you’re right, if you only had the DVD, the 4K is definitely fine.
Shawn Taylor Shawn Taylor from Indy wrote on July 22, 2021 at 1:48 pm
Well, there's 1 of the universal releases I mentioned. I almost bought S&B during prime day recently. It was only $10. But I've been pretty disappointed with older releases lately. Then you guys had a good run of universal reviews and I found S&B for $10, again, at a local resell shop and grabbed it. Well we know how that turned out. Luckily I only had the DVD so, its better than that, mostly 😅. I love the movie, big 10-4 on that!
Spoiler alert, the other one was The Mummy(1999), got the 4k trilogy for $20. Worth the risk. Like I said before I enjoy silly action movies almost as much as horror. Great show as always 🤙
