We’re knocking out another Written Review for you this Tuesday on what if Superman was bad tale with this twist on a superhero film. Movie reviews and disc quality reviews are color coded for your convenience, BillChete in orange and Lady Phantom in blue respectively.
IMDb Storyline: After a difficult struggle with fertility, Tori Breyer’s dreams of motherhood come true with the arrival of a mysterious baby boy. Brandon appears to be everything Tori and her husband, Kyle, ever wanted — bright, talented and curious about the world. But as Brandon nears puberty, powerful darkness manifests within him, and Tori becomes consumed by terrible doubts about her son. Once Brandon begins to act on his twisted urges, those closest to him find themselves in grave danger.
BillChete and Lady Phantom did an extensive movie review on the Horror Movie Weekly podcast back on November 24th of last year. You can listen to the AUDIO along with Jay of the Dead, the host of the show. Fast forward the track to 0:07:14 for the commencement of the Brightburn detailed spoiler-free review.
4K Disc Quality:
For all the naysayers out there that disapprove of “Fake 4K” this 2K Digital Intermediary up-converted to 4K will prove them wrong. While this isn’t a “Reference” Disc, it is; a vivid, vibrant, detailed and crisp as a critter 4K Blu-ray release. The blacks have a nice gradation while keeping all the details in tact. There isn’t much “popping” effect but when the reds and oranges hit the screen it will make you smile with envy that you are apart of the 4K generation. The Dolby Atmos track on the sound front is standout. There are tons of effects in Brightburn and the audio cues blare with authority wrapping you in a 360 degree soundfield. The subwoofer’s bass tones thump, punch and bang you with strength. It’s always present and gives you the impression you are there. It is tight and glorious. If I had to rate the audio alone it would be a solid “A”. Don’t miss this title, it definitely is worthy of a purchase, albeit the movie might not be of your liking.
This is a great 4K disc. It’s clear and crisp. There’s no noise , and all scenes, light and dark, look fantastic. The blacks are nice and deep. You can clearly see everything that’s going on, even in the darkest scenes; that gives up a very clear view of even the most gruesome scenes. However, and even though red is a prominent color, not many things pop. The sound is amazing. The Atmos is used to great effect. There is a “flutter” that can clearly be heard from above when Brandon flies, and the back speakers are well used too. The sound envelopes you and you hear things happening everywhere, and given that lots of things get broken and/or destroyed, it’s a very immersive experience. Great video and sound all around; I just wish more things popped out of the screen.
